Will Vaseline Help With Redness, Bumps And Irritation On Penis Head Caused By Dermatitis?

Hi, I have had a red irritation on the tip of my penis for about a month. I have treated it with vaseline and it always looks much better after a couple days, but it won't go away completely. When I first noticed it, it was a dry flaky patch of skin. Whenever I masturbate it gets redder, then I leave it alone for a few days looks like it's almost gone, but won't clear up completely. Sometimes I can see a couple tiny red bumps too. It's about a 1/4" patch of skin. The vaseline helps. I have had dermatitis pop up randomly on other parts of my body before. This has been around my eye, and on my chin under facial hair. Also I have not had any kind of sex in about 6 months.

Hi dryness along with redness over the penile head with bumps can be candidiasis which ia a fungal infection.vaseline may cure the condition temporarly but afterwards it exaggregates the infection.
It can be treated with daily washing the area and application of nizral pintment twice daily and use of flucanazole 150
Mg weekly once for 4 weeks

Dermatologist Dr. Dr. Kakkar's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern.

The distribution of red, sometime scaly dermatitis on penile head, face(chin) and around the eyes seems that it could be due to seborrhoeic dermatitis.

Other body sites like scalp, eyebrows, sides of the nose, chest can also be similarly affected by seborrhoeic dermatitis.

I usually ask my patients to apply a moderately potent steroid like fluticasone propionate once OR twice daily for 2 weeks and that is usually sufficient. Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a recurrent problem and since steroids cant be given for very long.

If needed for recurrent disease steroid sparing agents like tacrolimus OR pimecrolimus can be given for long term use

take care
regards
