General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello,
Vaginal infection medication during pregnancy that too in nine months does not affect the fetus. On the other hand persistence of vaginal infection, while labor can cause problems like infection of fetal eyes infection in episiotomy sutures. So treatment and control of infection are mandatory in pregnancy.
Vaginal ointment and pills are locally acting medicines which are very safe, even oral medications are indicated, and can be safely given for unresponsive infections. About the pain- It can be a normal ninth month decent of a fetus that causes uterine pain off and on. Fibroid though they mostly do not disturb pregnancy, can cause pain in pregnancy which needs medicines as per your doctor's advise.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
