Will The Treatment Remove Red Spots In Urine Or Bladder Removal Is Required?

My brother has had red spots in his urine...he has been told by the hospital he can have a treatment followed by another treatment 6 weeks later but if it doesnt work he will need bladder removed. He is a smoker and drinker age 58 years. Does the course of treatment x 2 usually clear it up or it it most likely he will need the bladder removed... or is it better to go for bladder removal.

Urologist 's  Response
Well, with the history that u give, it looks like he has bladder cancer in all probability. He will need Cystourehtroscopy with TURBT,ie resection of bladder tumour. If there is no muscle invasion, he might get cured with TURBT and sequential intravesical chemotherapy or BCG. But if it muscle invasive he will need bladder removal.
Now why second procedure.... If muscle invasion is not proven in first TURBT despite the tumour being high grade, he will need repeat TURBT to confirm possibility of muscle invasion. This explains the second operation few weeks later.
