Will The Thyroid Problem Affect Labor And Delivery?

Hi Doc, How are you today? I am 30 weeks pregnant and diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I am taking PTU 1 tab 3 x a day and my FT3 and FT4 are normal. My OB told me I will have a normal delivery and that makes me happy because my first baby was via CS. I would like to know if my thyroid disease can affect my labor and delivery soon. What will happen to my neck problem if I keep pushing?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
You are a diagnosed case of hyperthyroidism. You are under treatment with thyroid parameters in normal limits.
What is needed at the moment is to be in contact with endicrinologist/ get thyroid function tests done periodically & follow Endocrinologist's advise strictly.
In case of uncontrolled thyroid condition.. low birth weight/ possibility of hyperthyroidism in baby at birth are the possibilities.
As far as the thyroid functions are maintained in normal limits/ you are taking medicines as per advise/ your pregnancy is checked up /with proper nutritional supplements .. there is no problem as far as your pregnancy & delivery are concerned.
Now about bearing down with neck pain.. You seem to have cervical spondelitis.. The bearing down without exerting stress on neck can be managed by using cervical collar / avoiding folding of neck while bearing down.
Thanks.
