My dad is Diabetic and has recently started using insulin. His MD gave him no instructions other than take 8-12 units novolog according to how you eat and to just carry around a tube of frosting because you are sure to crash at sometime. Anyways- I am a nurse and work on a medical floor in the hospital and we give DM teaching all the time. I was trying to find a sliding scale insulin chart online to better help him. He has been very shaky, confused, irritable... etc and I think has been getting too much insulin. We have been monitoring it for a few days and I have told him to only take 2 units if its over 140-180 and 4 units 181-200. The highest his blood sugar has been was 206. He has also gained a lot of weight. Would it be true that if he was taking to much insulin that he would because he would eat more?
