Will Taking Drug Ecstasy Affect Epidural At The Time Of Giving Birth?
If someone has taken the drug ecstacy in the past (prior to being pregnant) would it affect an epidural at the time of labor? I'm asking out of curiosity I have a friend who has experimented with the drug quite a few times she hasn't touched it in about a year possibly a little longer. She is now a week short of 7 months pregnant and we had been discussing it but weren't sure of weather or not it would affect the labor process or her or the baby.
Getting epidural anesthesia during labor, or any process during the course of labor, should not be affected by a history of taking ecstacy. The drug is out of your system within a few days of use, and if there has not been any used during the pregnancy, there is no reason the baby should have any ill effects either.
So your friend's labor and delivery management can be exactly the same as any other healthy woman giving birth.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that tis information was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
