Will Polyp In Cervix During Pregnancy Affect Delivery?
My daughter who is 31 years old is 10 weeks pregnant. A one cm polyp has been discovered in her cervix. She has in the past had abnormal cells in her uterus which were treated and she has had clear cervical smears for the past three years. Her pregnancy to date has been atypical with nausea during the first trimesta. Nearing her second trimesta she has less nausea and tiredness and less cramping and tenderness of her breasts. She is a person who has suffered depression and anxiety, but this is now much more under control and has not had any episodes of depression during the last two years. She did complain of pain during sex about six or seven months ago and has had some blood spotting during her first trimesta. This has now stopped. She is of course concerned that this polyp may not be benign given her history. Do you have any way of helping me reassure her? Thank you so much for your attention Mrs B
welcome to Health care magic. 1.Post coital bleed, will goes more towards cervical mass, infections / inflammations. 2.Since last three smears are normal, the suspicion about the malignancy is less. 3.Howevere you have old history of treated uterine pathology - bearing all these in mind your daughter pregnancy need to taken delicately. 4.I would suggest a good followup scans through out the course of the pregnancy. 5.1cm polyp should not cause any difficulty during pregnancy. Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health. Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
