Will Medical Marijuana Help In Depression?

My son suffers from depression. Lately, he has been asking me about the affects of medical marijuana on depression. I was against the idea of him using the substance. But, he told me to find an unbiased view on it from a certified doctor. If there are any pros/cons you could tell me about that would be very helpful.

Hi,

Marijuana should not be used as a treatment of depression. In fact, in research studies, it has been linked to increase in occurrence of depression. It might make you feel better as an immediate effect, but it long term, it is definitely detrimental.
Marijuana is also linked with other psychiatric disorders like psychosis apart from effect on a person's personal and economic life.

So, my advise will be to clearly ask your son to stay away from marijuana or any other substance. It would be much better if he seeks psychiatric treatment for depression which will be definitely helpful.

Best wishes.
