Hello and thank you for using HCM. I got through your query and i totally understand you. I am very sorry for your lost. It is a heartbreak to loose a parent. And now it is quite normal that you do this kind of questions to your self and to the doctors. I will try to explain you something.
As you describe, your mother had a heart attach that was complicate with cardiac insufficiency. This means what you already knew, that the heart looses its normal total function. If you tell me that her heart worked only 30%, this was not a good think. A person whit cardiac insufficiency is much more prone to a lot of big complications in the operating room and in the future. Their heart might experience aritmyas that lead to sudden death. As you explain, it might be the cause.
When a doctor is dealing with an insufficient heart he has to make balance for what the patient might profit and which are the ricks.
Having
diabetes is a major rick factor for
ischemic heart disease and for possible heart complications. Diabetes is a risk factor for both procedures
angioplasty and
cardiac surgery. having diabetes predisposes to close stents in a short time and it might give major other organ complications during cardiac surgery in post operator period.
So, my opinion as cardiologist is that your doctors have done a balance in that time. A heart with a 30% function, only with to blockages and diabetes, angioplasty might be the best option. Normally we sent to surgery people with much more stenosis (to ore tree vessel disease) and in critical positions that are not resolved whit angioplasty. Her function and diabetes that might lead to organ damages rises a lot the rick for surviving surgery.
So, I wish i explained you something and that this might resolve your query's. I think that you should be in pace because this is not related with a bed decision but with the mystery of the heart.
Best regards, DR Ervina
