Will Bisacodyl Taken For Constipation Cause Any Harm During Pregnancy?
I have suffered fro Laxative addiction long term. I abused laxatives during the first 4-5 weeks of my pregnancy, not knowing I was pregnant. For two weeks now since I found out I have eaten linseed and taken 1 - 2 laxatives approx per day. Without this I cannot seem to go at all. I am worried about the early damage and long term damage I may be doing to my baby by continuing tk take even small doses. The tablets are bisacodyl.
It is very uncomfortable without bowel movements every day. I do empathize your agony.
FDA has categorized bisacodyl in pregnancy in category C. So cannot be absolutely safe.
I would advise you to modify your diet. Please include as much roughage in your diet as possible. Every day, eat lot of green leafy vegetables. All fruits are good laxatives, particularly if you consume at least one Orange or Sweet lemon a day, it will definitely help you overcome the constipation. I mean eating the fruits and not drinking fruit juices.
Non-vegetarian diet is constipating. So you may think of consuming only vegetarian diet.
Still if you need some support laxative, you may take Isabgul at night. It has to be taken with plenty of water as it absorbs the water and increases the volume of the stools along with softening them.
You should drink plenty of water.
I hope this will take care of your constipation.
