Will A 15cm Small Intestine Removal Cause Any Future Problems?

Hi, my dad is 52 years old and he swollowed his artifical tooth by accident 5 days ago and it turned out the artifical tooth punched multiple holes in his small intestine, causing peritonitis. He had surgery yesterday, that they removed 15cm of his small intestine and cleaned the abdominal cavity. My dad is recovering now and his belly still hurts My questions are: 1) is the removal of 15cm small intestine a big thing, will this cause any problem for his future life?. 2) Is there anything I should pay special attention to, especially how & when can we be sure that all the holes in the intestine are healed? Thank you very much.

HI
Well come to HCM
Thank for asking
Your query being appreciated, removing intestine is not the new to the surgery but underlying cause of it makes the different as long as the healing process is concern, here in this case it may take couple of week for completer healing in uneventful recovery, if infections takes place then healing may be lengthen, some in good immune system good anastomosis it may comes around in week or 10days, hope this information helps.
