Will Crisanta LS Reduce The PCOS Symptoms ?

Hi, I am 22 yrs old and I am diagnosed with PCOS. I have been prescribed Crisanta LS for 3 cycles. Will this reduce my symptoms like acne and hairfall permanently? Or wil the symptoms show up again after stopping the pills? Also, please let me know the diet I need to follow to keep it under control. I also read online that BCPs increase insulin resistance which is a main reason for acne. Will this pill increase insulin resistance?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Let me answer your first query that if the symptoms will recur. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to predict this. In my clinical experience, those women who have longstanding or advanced disease will find that symptoms do recur. However, lifestyle changes like a healthy diet and regular exercise are more effective in normalizing the hormonal imbalance in PCOS and control symptoms.

There is no specific food regimen that you need to follow. The main point is to ensure that you are eating 60% of your food as complex carbohydrates [meaning food like fruits and vegetables, wheat bread, low oil salads etc], the remaining must come from mostly proteins like meat and poultry, toned milk, egg whites and cereals. The fat or oils needs to be kept low so avoid fried food and cook food with as little oil as possible. Also, what is most important is to eat food in small portions and drink plenty of water.

You must also keep in check the amount that you eat, if you are spending most of your time in low activity work like office work then the total calories need to be lower than if you do heavy work.

Regular exercise at least for 30 minutes each day will help restore your hormonal environment and help the most in controlling the disease.

Now regarding BCP and insulin resistance. All of them tend to have this effect. You are using the pills only for 3 months so this should not be an issue of concern at all. Remember that it is not always insulin resistance that causes acne. Crisanta helps control acne by an entirely different mechanism so do not worry. Stress is one of the most important contributors to PCO, so stop thinking so much, this is a very common condition in the modern world. You will get over it.

Hope you find this useful.
