Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Mother has been on Aricept and Namenda since 2010. She has been in Assisted Living for a few months and after about a week of Mother acting very panicked and paranoid that something bad is going to happen, I found out AL failed to get her Aricept meds filled. She was off this med cold turkey for a good month until today. She has dementia. Will re-starting this med. help her get back on track? Or will this spiral her downward even more?

Will Aricept Help To Treat Dementia?
Hi I understandyou concern. Aricept contain denepezil. Donepezil is anticholinergic medicine that used for dementia. It is useful to stop progression of disorder but it can not reverse the damage that had already done. No medicine useful to reverse damage that occurred in dementia. aricept is good drug and it prevent further damage. Paranoid behavior can be treated with low dose of anti psychotic medicines. Still have query then feel free to ask. Happy o help you further. Thank you.
