Cardiac Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for the query.
You have to take into account that living a hole life with a hole into the heart means that your father has already dilatation of the right chambers of the heart and pulmonary hypertension.
Even if surgery is totally successfull these patients may have shortness of breath due to these changes. 15 day is to early to have the optimal result after the operation.
Firstly I suggest to control your father to the specialist because sometimes there may be also complications like pleural effusion etc, which contribute to shortness of breath.
To have a complete picture of the situation I need postoperative exams of your father.
I find this answer helpful
