Why Is My Fetal Pole Measuring Only 6 Weeks?

My sister had a early scan last wk she thought she was 9 wks pregnant. It turns out the fetal pole was only measuring 6 wks with no heartbeat. She was told to come back in 1 wk(today) the fetus has doubled in size but still no heartbeat. She has been told by the sonographer she would expect to see a heartbeat and to have another scan in 1 wk.She is very upset and confused.

Hello dear,I understand your concern. In my opinion the fetal heart beat is visible at 6-7 weeks usually. So as it is not visible I suggest you to repeat the scan. But if still there is no growth and no heart beat then it might be an abnormal pregnancy and it might need to be terminated.Dont worry. If that happens planning of pregnancy after a gap of 3 months is good and mostly the further pregnancy might be normal.
