Why Is Norethisterone Prescribed For Irregular Periods?
Hi doctor, I am Merin Francis (21 years). I had a doubt regarding the prescription of doctor. I have a problem regarding the irregularity of periods for almost 5 months. The doctor prescribed me two medicines one was a Haematinic with Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 & Minerals and the other was Norethisterone tablets. When I searched in google about the second prescription and found that it is used for stopping or delaying periods. Should I carry on with the doctor s prescription? Kindly suggest your opinion.
You are right , sometime for special occasion female want to delay their period for which primolute that is norethisterone given three day before menstrual period start ...
But as norethisterone sustain uterine lining , it can be used for irregular bleeding , heavy period etc.... Usually 5 mg TDS dose given ..... When drug stopped bleeding occur after two to three days ....
So yes this drug can be given for irregular period as it simulate progesterone action....
Hope your concern solved
Advise : gynecologist consultation for examination....
