Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was recently prescribed a 1 mg lorazepam for anxiety over his A Fib, CHF, and aneurysm. What do I need to know about this medication and the strength he is taking? I know that I can talk to his primary care physician but I would like to have a second opinion.
Your husband has atrial fibrillation, Congestive heart failure and aneurysm. He also have anxiety issues. He has been given Lorazepam 1 mg recently. Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine short acting drug. The helps to control the symptoms of anxiety and help in relaxing individual. Usually it is prescribed in 1-2 mg doses and 1 mg dose prescribed to your husband is low dose. The drug should be taken on SOS basis only, and if prescribed regularly it is not advisable to take the medicine for over 4 weeks because of risk of dependence. Over all drug is safe to use and is free of serious side effects except sedation and slight dizziness.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
