Why Experiencing Sore Throat, Body Ache, Blocked Nose And Fever Having Antibiotics For Common Cold?
Hello, I contracted a common cold about 3 weeks ago and shortly after went on a holiday to SE Asia. As the cold did not disappear and my cough brought up greenish mucus I went to a Doctor in Cambodia who gave me Antibiotics. Last Friday night I suddenly woke up at night totally sweaty and with a high temperature. I felt as bad as never before, aching, malaise, fatigue, body sores in lower back etc. I managed to fly back home and went to the hospital here on Sunday where they did some blood tests. They determined that it is not Malaria and some of the other tests are still outstanding. However since Sunday I have been experiencing fever, massive nightly sweats, blocked nose, slight sore throat, aches in the body, no energy, no appetite and I feel it does not really improve and i am a bit concerned.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sorethroat, body ache, fever and blocked nose which seems to be due to viral infection of body and infection of upper respiratory tract. Your immunity of body seems to be compromised. Need not to worry. Symptoms usually resolves in 7-10 days. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after thorough examination. You should get blood tests done and go for throat swab test as well. Take proper course of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin along with antiviral and antiinflammatory medication such as Levocetrizine. You should maintain complete oral hygiene. Do warm saline gargles. You should avoid outside spicy, sharp and fried food. You should take diet rich in multivitamins.
