Why Does The Doctor Keeps Increasing The Thyroid Medicine?

My sister is diabetic, hypertensive, high cholesterol insulin dependent and has thyroid problems. I don t remember if it is hyper or hypo but she has recently been on a diet and losing weight. The question that I have is concerning her thyroid medication. Her doctor has been increasing her thyroid medicine. What could be causing her thyroid readings to fluctuate like this?

Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Incomplete data: age, name of the medication, thyroid tests??
It appears from the the brief history given in your query that your sister seems to be suffering from HYPOTHYROIDISM which is treated with Levothyroxine the dose of which has not been optimum or adequate to control her symptoms and the the thyroid function tests like TSH. So, her treating doctor has been increasing the dose to maintain the TSH level in the range of 0.4-4 mIu the optimum while taking the thyroid medication (Levothyroxine).
Hope this answers your query.
