Why Did I Have Clayey Stools After Having Pepto A Week Before?

Yesterday I had clay colored stool and it freaked me out a little bit. I've always been healthy, no history of anything. About a week ago I took way too much pepto, could that be a cause? Other symptoms, cramping (lower than my stomach) and thirst. what could be going on? Thank you for your help

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of clay colored stool, took too much pepto a week ago, there is also cramping in lower stomach and thirst, wants to know what might be going on.
Well taking too much Pepto a week ago can not really have clay colored stool after one week as it is washed away within a few days at the maximum.
Hence the most probable cause is obstructive jaundice in which there is obstruction to the outflow of bile due to stone, stricture or cancer.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult your Doctor for a clinical evaluation and examination so that further investigations can be done:
Blood: CBC, liver function tests including GGT and Alkaline phosphatase.
Stool: Stercobilinogen, bile salts and pigments. may be absent
Urine : Bile salts and pigments and routine.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen to be confirmed by CT scan or MRCP.
Once diagnosed, to get further management as per the reports of investigations .
