Why Are My Relative's TLC DLC Counts Higher Than Normal?

One of my relative's TLC DLC count is increased higher than the normal. And she is suffering from high fever due to that. This has happened thrice in 2 months. Can i please know the reason for the same and what are the results because of high TLC DLC count?

Hi
Total WBC count rises in the presence of infection which is the reason for fever in your relative's case. The WBCs are the blood cells which come into action commonly during any infection, could be bacterial, viral or any other kind. These cells are the first line if defense mechanism which try to eliminate the offending agent, in the process more and more cells take part in this, thus increasing the counts. If the infection is frequent then it raises more often. So it is a indicator of underlying pathology. It should get back to normal after treatment of cause. However if the rise is too much and not getting to normalcy after treatment of infection, then it needs to be evaluated thoroughly. Do check with the DLC to note the type of cell which is raised.
