Whom To Consult To Diagnose A Heart Murmur?

I took my daughter for a routine sports physical (she is trying out for women s crew in college) she is very active...running and competitive swimming. I couldn t get a timely appt with regular physician but saw a FNP at a clinic. We were told that she had a heart murmur and needed to be cleared for activity. Should her doctor that she sees every year have been able to diagnosis this???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Some persons are present for a long period of time.

There are others however that develop over time and some that are precipitated by certain events eg anemia, thyroid disease, fluid overload, infection can also cause a murmur to be heard.

It would depend on the type of murmur present and any underlying factors.

I hope this helps
