When Is It Safe To Fly After A Delivery?

I am a second time surrogate mother delivering twins at 36weeks with a repeat caesarean. Always had a good recovery for all three pregnancy. One natural birth, last set of twins one was vaginal other came out by csection and now this one. I have been away from home waiting for delivery for over a month and I have a two hour flight back home and wondering what is the soonest I can fly home! I am very anxious to get home! The alternative is a 12 hour drive that I do not want to do with the major hemorrhoid problem I am having. But want to get home the fastest!

Hi,
Following C-section, your are at an increased risk of DVT for about 6 weeks. Therefore, air travel would add to this risk. It would be safest to wait for 6 weeks before you travel. Also, you would need to check you airline's policy on travelling after surgery.
If you feel you cannot wait for 6 weeks then you may consider discussing with your doctor the possibility of taking a blood-thinning agent such as Clexane prior to travel.
