When Can I Expose My Cauterized Hand To Water?

my hand had to be cauterized due to severe bleeding that lasted over 3 hours. silver nitrate sticks were used to stop the bleeding. I was wondering how long should i wait before i am able to expose the area to water and attempt to get the extra silver nitrate off of my hand?
