What Will Happen To A Tummy Without Blood Flow, And What Are The Chances Of Survival After An Organ Failure?

My mum has been operated on to remove a tumour from her bowel, three days later her bowel erupted and she ended up with septicemia. They have operated again but now the blood flow is not making it s way to the wound and the doctor advised the tissue cells are dying. They have stopped all sedatives 48hours ago to try and wake her up but she hasn t yet. Her kidneys and liver are suffering but she does not need dialysis yet and they haven t topped up her blood. How long does it take for one to awaken after being in a double surgery, what will happen to her tummy with a lack of blood flow, and what are the odds of survival if her organs start to fail more? She is also a diabetic and 74 years old.

Sorry to know the condition of your Mother.

With the multi-organ failure , the blood flow to practically all parts of the body are hampered. I hope she is in the best hands and more important in the hands of Doctors who must been trying their best.

The possible outcomes in such patients is poor. You should discuss this in a very straight-forward way with the treating Doctors and ask for their frank opinion. There is a limit to the sufferings of the patient and the relatives.
The best care may help her and she may be in a position to come-up.

Age of 74 and diabetes is always a bad hindrance to the positive progress.
Tummy alone can not have the lack of blood supply. If this is so due to local problems with the bowel alone , she may be alright within a few seeks.
