What Will Happen If The Tibia Fracture Is Not Treated For About 3 Months?

My son is in federal prison and per the federal mandate they are required to receive competent medical care, actually it is a violation of their civil rights if not done...Here is the problem He has gone to the clinic 4 times and they told him well if you could walk here your fine. He also has his case manager call the clinic and they told him, he is fine maybe a shin splint. He finally got them to xray it after 3 months and he has a fractured tibia, what complications could there be due to the 3 month delay, He is in extreme and they told him they would put him on the waiting list which is 3 more months..

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,
After 3 months , if he still has the pain(significant), then a fresh x ray needs to be taken and assessed. The most common complication(if fracture is in diaphyseal region) is non union which can prevent weight beariing due to persistent pain.
If after 3 months, the fracture has still not united, then it is better to go for surgery ( ORIF with IMIL nail with bone grafting )
