What Type Of Surgeon Should I See If Having A Hernia Located Right Above Where Temporary Illeostomy Was Located?

What type of surgeon should I reach out to for what I believe to be a hernia located right above where temporary illeostomy was located? Some days are worse than others but it feels like my skin is stretched and the left side of my abdomen is hard as a rock while my right side is more tender. It also pertrudes that I can see it through my shirt somedays. My illeostomy was for three months back in January of 2011 and I am also on remacaid for my chrohns. Any suggestions?

Hello
Risk factors for an incisional hernia includes prior surgery. You note the hernia is located above the area where a ileostomy was located. Hernias are an area of skin where there is a void in the underlying muscle. They tend to form a protrusion in the skin and if they become strangulated (pinched and lose blood supply) they can be quite painful.
Any general surgeon has experience in repairing a hernia. Done under general anesthesia it is performed usually with a patch placed over the opening.
Remember to not do any heaving lifting as this will worsen the hernia.
Best regards
