General Surgeon Dr. Paul Anant's  Response
The overall symptoms which your son is having can be due to the ear infection as the doctor diagnosed. However in children ear infection can begin even from some throat infection due to upper respiratory tract infection, which could mean that the infection to the ear has spread from the infection in the throat. Therefore if the cough is prominent and the symptoms remain the same, another assessment for the upper respiratory tract has to be done, so that appropriate antibiotic course can be given.Hope this helps. Regards.
