What Treatment Is Suggested For Mucous Like Periods?

Hi, my periods are very regular anywhere between 26-28 days. This month my period came 6 days late, I was having all sign of pregnancy. The nausea, tender breasts, urinating constantly! But today I started my period and it's very mucos like, and I have never seen it like that before?!

If you were having so regular period and have missed it with all the other symptoms of pregnancy, the chances that are/were pregnancy seem to be very high. It is quite likely that you may be aborting. If it is mucous like discharge with some bleeding, the possibility of threatened abortion has to be kept in mind. To confirm this, ultrasonography would be the best tool. It will show whether you are pregnant and aborting or if you are pregnant, whether your pregnancy is undisturbed or whether this is just a delayed period. Urine pregnancy test may not be useful at this stage since it takes at least 8-10 days for this test to become negative after the baby becomes non-viable.

If it is threatened abortion and you are not getting pain in abdomen, doctor may try to save your pregnancy by progesterone preparation and bed rest. However, if the baby is non-viable, the pregnancy may have to be terminated. Such early abortions are mostly due to chromosomal abnormalities in the baby. You do have good chance to have normal baby next time.

Just a delay in your period also has to be kept in mind. Occasionally such delay may take place.

Please report to your Obstetrician to get the diagnosis made and for any further treatment if required.
