Hello Doctor, My son 21 months old was diagonised with GERD, TracheoLaryngomalacia at birth. He was operated for Nissen fundoplication and got G-Tube. Still on G-tube feedings till now. Doesnt eat anything orally due to excess secretions in throat and gagging on it. He has sensironeural hearing loss on both the ears and is on hearing aids. also last week he was diagonised with Submucous cleft palate. Please give your recommendations for the treatment and for him to eat and drink and hear. He is a active child. Thanks in advance
Hi to answer your question about submucosal cleft palate. Surgery is indicated if your son has difficulty in speech. Sometime during speech there is some weakness in the palate making air escape through his nose during speech. If this is the case, I would recommend you to get an Speech Pathologist opinion. As he his also having issues with feeding, i think it is important to establish his swallow is normal by the speech pathologist. As he is used to G Tube feeding they develop swallowing difficulties which can be addressed by a speech therapist. He should use his hearing aid continuously and also his hearing rechecked regularly. As hearing is important for speech development. how bad was his Tracheolaryngomalacia? How is it now? This will help me to recommend you better with Tracheomalacia.
