I've had chest pains for the past two weeks, including a cough. I'm a 50 yr old female and I smoke approx. 1/2 pack a day. I have gone to my doctors in the past week with a skin rash under my left armpit, (approx. 3" x 1") and he has diagnosed me with a mild case of shingles. I'm concerned about the chest pains though. I have a chest x-ray scheduled for Monday.. Should I be taking this further than an x-ray? Could chest pains have anything to do with the shingles? The pains are (very) gradually become worse. thanks in advance for your advice
Hello It seems from the history that you are having shingles affecting the chest. Shingles is because of reactivation of viral infection and it is caused by herpes zoster virus. It is very painful condition and it is treated by anti viral drugs like acyclovir. Along with antiviral drugs improvement in general immune status is required.
Thank you
