What Treatment Can Be Used For Swollen And Painful Bartholin Gland?
I have a severely swollen Bartholin gland that makes it painful to sit and walk. I've had 10 o 12 like this already on the same side. This time with it being this big I don't have a fever or chills yet and it's been this big for 3 days now. Sitz baths aren't helping. Is there a paste or a cream I can apply that will help draw out whatever is plugging the duct and give me some relief? I've had it lanced 6 times and not looking forward to having to have that done again. I just found out I'm pregnant also so avoiding minor surgery would be great :)
The bartholin glands are located on each side of the vaginal opening and secrete fluid that lubricate the vagina.
Sometimes the openings of these glands become obstructed, causing fluid to back up into the gland. The result is relatively painless swelling called a Bartholin's cyst.
At times, the fluid within the cyst may become infected, resulting in pus surrounded by inflamed tissue (abscess).
Sitz bath is usually effective and should be continued to relieve pain and discomfort.
Painful/tender cyst, or you experience fever then it suggest infection of the cyst. In that scenario make an appointment with your gynaecologist right away. Infection of bartholin glands will require oral antibiotics to be administered along with pain-killers.
take care regards
