What Treatment Can I Take For Sticky Mucus While Coughing, Tasteless Food ?

I have thick sticky mucus that I cough up along with a metallic taste in the mouth , soreness of the inside of the cheeks. Has been going on for months. Went to the Doctor and he told me it was GERD . Have used over the counter acid control, changed diet to eliminate things that irritate GERD. No change, getting worse. Food tastes horrible, metallic taste won t go away. Sinus mucus is no better.

Hello,
As you have described in your history you have GERD and it is treatable. If over the counter drugs are not helpful then you need to consult a doctor and should take other better drugs for better control of GERD. After you start taking those drugs it might take some days for them to show their effect.
Since you have GERD you also have to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent worsening and better control of symptoms of GERD. Healthy lifestyle for GERD includes avoidance of fatty food, acidic foods, alcohol, smoking, spearmint, peppermint, tomato based foods, possibly coffee and tea, having food at proper timing everyday, adequate sleep, weight reduction if you are over weight, regular exercise, drinking adequate water, elevation of head of the bed and avoidance of eating just before retiring to bed if you have night time symptoms etc.
If your symptoms are not controlled even with these lifestyle changes you might need long term use of drugs to reduce the gastric acid secretion after ruling out any other underlying cause for GERD symptoms.

Wish you good health.
