What To Do When You Have Gouty Arthritis ?

Age-29, Gender - Male, Weight - 75kgs, Height - 5.6", Problem: On 27.03.2009. a minor operation in the joint of my rt. knee has been done to take out some fluid deposited their. At that time Uric Acid level was 8. Now it is 5.5. Two yrs ago, my Uric Acid level was 13. Sometimes I suffer from joint pains - mainly ankle pain or neck pain. 2 years ago X-ray report suggested that I have cervical spondolysis. Now due to the operation in my knee, my movement is restricted as I cannot completely bend my knees. It seems than still some fluid is deposited just above the knee joint, but much lessor amont post operation. How long it will take to fully cure? What necessary things I need to do to avoid further joint pains as well as deposition of fluid. My doctor has given me 3 medicines, since I also suffer from gastritis. The Medicines are - (1)Zyloric - 3 tabs per day; (2)Rablet D - 2 tabs per day , before b/f & dinner (3)Ezact 120 - 1 tab after lunch

As per your symptoms and lab reports the condition is likely to be gouty arthritis. Gout is a form of arthritis which is caused by a high level of uric acid in the blood stream. Gout occurs more often in men than it does in women, primarily because women tend to have lower uric acid levels than men do. It is characterized by severe pain in the joints, mainly the lower joints particularly knee and ankle joints which can come on quite suddenly. The affected joint/s may become red and swollen.Normal uric acid levels are 3.4?7.0 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl). Blood test results can be misleading, though. Some people have high uric acid levels, but never experience gout. And some people have signs and symptoms of gout, but don't have unusual levels of uric acid in their blood. But in your case the uric acid levels were high intially 13 mg/dl, later reduced to 8 mg/dl at present its 5.5 mg/dl its normal. When the level of uric acid increases, due to the inability of kidney to pass it off to bladder, it starts accumulating in the blood in different parts of body like joints, knees, etc. This excess amount of uric acid forms tiny thin crystals in different parts of body especially in the joints, ankles, etc. The excess level of uric acid can be due to the excess intake of alcohol, unhealthy eating habit, especially junk food, high protein-rich food, etc. Treatment includes- 1. Maintain adequate fluid intake. 2.Keep your weight under control. Obesity has been linked to gout. 3. Dietary changes can help prevent gout attacks. Avoid a purine-rich diet like red meat, poultry and fish products. Green leafy vegetables are highly recommended to the patients suffering from gout. Carrot, beet, cucumber, beans (French beans). Garlic is one of the oldest home remedy used for the treatment of various chronic diseases. Most common fruits useful for the treatment of gout include apples, banana, grapes, etc. Grapes and cherry too are very good, as it clears off the toxic acid present along with uric acid. 4.Be compliant with the treatment plan your doctor recommends. To continue Zyloric for gout and Rabelet- D for gastritis . Gouty arthritis is a chronic degenerative disease which takes time to get better, as it cannot be completely cured. we can halt the progression of the disease by having a strict diet control and by taking medications on time. once the uric acid levels returns to normal the fluid in the knee will reduce and the movements of knee will improve. Tab. Naprosyn 500 mg or Etoricoxib can be used to reduce pain and inflamation. these tablets can cause gastritis so to be after food. Hot compresses will provide temporary pain relief, cold ones will help reduce swelling and pain. Exercises to reduce neck pain in cervical spondylosis simple stretching and strengthening exercises flex, extend, gentle side to side movements for few seconds. If you do this every day, the neck movements will increase your muscle strength. Sitting at a desk of a right height with chair correctly asjusted in a erect posture Gentle massage of the neck muscles, particularly with aromatic oils, often helps. Physical therapy is also help ful to relive the pain.
