What To Do For The Severe Headache And Dizziness?

I had an mri done for severe headaches, dizziness with lack of balance, things get dark momentarily. My doctor said mri is normal but I got a copy of report and It said: Mild prominence of the cortical sulci are noted and Incidental note is made of an empty sella. I have had headaches for many years and no migraine meds have worked or pain pills. I am a woman of 53 yrs, type 2 diabetes and have hypothyroidism.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM! I appreciate your concern!

In your MRI results the main concerning finding is "empty sella".

This is a known syndrome, which can cause this clinical scenario. The "sella" is the place where the pituitary gland (the most important hormonal gland of the body) stays.
It can also cause hormonal imbalance (like hypothyroidism) and high intracranial pressure, resulting in persistent headaches.

I recommend you to perform an ophtalmological examination of the eyes for papilledema and a spinal tap, to exclude a possible high intracranial pressure.

I would also recommend you to perform TSH and other pituitary hormones, to find out if the pituitary gland or the thyroids are causing your hormonal imbalance.

Hope to have been of help!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
