What To Do For Small Amount Of Blood In White Part Of Eye?
HI, my nine year old son was hit in the eyebrow by a baseball at practice two nights ago. He has a black eye and it has been swollen about 90% shut. We have been icing it and it seems to look a little less swollen tonight and his eyelid is more open. Now that it is more open, I can see a small amount of blood in the white part of the lower outer corner of his eye, but he says he can see perfectly fine out of it and has no eyeball pain. Should I be concerned over the blood?
Hello It seems from the history that your nine year old son has suffered a hit in the eyebrow during a basket ball match. Following it he is having black eye and small amount of blood in the white part of the eye. Black eye is because of collection of blood in the layers of skin of the eyelids as a result of impact of injury. It will respond to cold compression and it will resolve spontaneously over 1-2 weeks as the blood gets absorbed. The white spot in the conjunctiva is subconjunctival hemorrhage as a result of collection of blood in the subconjunctival space under the conjunctiva. This also wont require treatment generally and it will get absorbed over 1-2 weeks.
Thank you
