What To Do For Dry Cough?

I am 43 years old, 5'11'', 60 pounds, no serious medical health problem. I have completed 5 days anti-cough medicine but my dry cough has not improved a bit. Can I take antibiotics alone for my cough and no anti-coughs since I have taken completed them already?

Hi thanks for contacting HCM...

Noted you have only 5 days cough...
Cause has to be searched for and accordingly treated ...Don't directly jump over antibiotic....

First if you have associated headache , mild fever and congestive symptom then cause could be viral flu or allergic cough....
For that CBC can be done which might show lymphocytosis in viral and eosinophilia in allergic causes.....
Benadryl like antihistaminic useful for it .

If you have acid reflux disease then also dry cough can occur....
For that omeprazole can be taken....

If dry cough remain persistent then bronchitis or other lung problems ruled by chest x ray and spirometry if needed...

If weight loss and anorexia present with fevet then tuberculosis ruled out by sputum examination ....

Take care...

For dry cough herb product like extract of pine shoots helpful...

Consult physician for proper respiratory examination ....
