What To Do For Child With Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome?
i have a 4 year old daughter who has been diagnosed with cyclical vomiting syndrome. she occasionally but not always has episodes after traveling (flying) and swimming. I m not sure that it is related but if not, it is a strange coincidence. her episodes last a few hours and are severe, she sleeps and then is fine. during one of her episodes, we took her to the er for bloodwork (per her GI) and the only thing that came back abnormal was her glucose level - it was 130ish after not eating for 8-10 hours (it was the middle of the night). subsequent blood test was normal. we have had xrays and an mri and everything has been normal. my question - could this be an appendicitis that flares up for a short time and then calms down? She never has a fever during an episode. she does complain of severe belly pain during the episodes. zofran completely stops the vomiting within 5-15 mins. Thank you.
Thanks for the query. For prevention of the cyclic vomiting syndrome your child should get adequate sleep to prevent exhaustion, treat sinus problems or allergies, seek help on reducing stress and anxiety, avoid foods that trigger episodes or foods with additives. Drugs like Anti-nausea drugs, Sedatives, Medications that suppress stomach acid, Antidepressants may help. L-carnitine helps your body turn fat into energy may also help. Appendicitis is less likely to be missed by the usg or mri which you already done. Hope i helped you.
