If one is diagnosed with high blood pressure, the person need to take medications regularly as prescribed by the physician , have regular followups with appropriate lifestyle changes. Lifestyle changes can help you control and prevent high blood pressure even if you are taking blood pressure medication. Here's what you can do like Eating healthy foods which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy foods. Get plenty of potassium, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Eat less saturated fat and total fat. Limit the amount of sodium in your diet, maintain a healthy weight, increase physical activity, limit alcohol, quit smoking if you smoke, manage stress and practice slow and deep breathing. Appropriate investigation are required to check for the complications and for the side effects of the medicines. Hence the follow up is the most important in the case of a newly diagnosed hypertensive person. We suggest you to join a disease management group in your locality for the supportive care. It consists of a General Physician, Dietician, Counsellor etc.
