What Should The Creatinine Level Be While Suffering From Diabetes And High BP?

my grandmother is in the hospital and they told her that her creantinine level is at 3. She has high blood pressure, diabetes and is retaining water and in her lungs. She is 84 y/o. What does this test result mean? She has been in the hospital since sunday and on meds and it went from 2.5 to 3.

I can understand your concern.
Creatinine is a protein which is excreted by kidneys. It is actually a waste product fromm body's metabolism.
Normal level of creatinine in blood is upto 1.5.
When this level rises, it means that kidney is not excreting creatinine out of the body. This is commonly seen with Renal (kidney) failure.
Most common cause for Renal failure are diabetes and hypertension.
Since your grand mother is having both, diabetes and hypertension, possibility of Renal failure due to these diseases is more.
When kidney fails to perform it's functions, urine output decreases, so there is fluid occumulate in the body.
So overall she is having kidney failure any due to this her creatinine levels are increasing.
