What Should I Do In The Initial Stage Of High Blood Sugar?

I am 46, male 5 8 , 65kgs, live in Delhi. Since last 3-4 months I was feeling exhausted by evening so I visited a physician, who advised me to met my FBS & PP (with 75gm glucose) checked before going for any medication. on last sunday i got it checked from Appllo as FBS 174 & PP 340. Then to confirm I checked with the instant glucometer (random 195 at 9.45pm, FBS 242 at 7am & PP 231 at 10am, I am unable to understand the wide fluctuation) prior to this I never had higher sugar level as I get it checked every year & it has been consistent in last 7 years. Then i got the A1C done which is 7.7. Now on consulting the same physician he declared me diabetic & prescribed me MELMET 500 SR once daily initially for 10 day. Pls advice me what should I do at this initial stage of higher blood sugar.
