What Should Be The Normal Tsh Level?

Hello, I had 2 hyperparathyroid adenomas & then a complete removal of my thyroid all path benign. My question is what should my TSH level be at to prevent fatigue & weight gain. My recent level was less than 1. & my surgeon said I need to lower my dosage of synthroid from 125 mcg to 112 mcg I am confused because I was feeling tired & having an increade appatite prior. Would the decrease in Rx make the symptoms worse? My Dr. said my TSH should be between 1 & 2

Hello and welcome to HCM!
I carefully read your concern and do understand your query.
After total thyroidectomy, when the biopsy of the nodules results to be benign, the recommended TSH level is between 1-3.
Taking high doses of levothyroxine and maintaining a TSH lower than 1, puts you in a high risk of facticious hyperthyroidism (Hyperthyroidism caused by the over dose of levothyroxine) and this would have some undesirable side effects like: osteoporosis, heart problems ect.
That is why the TSH is recommended to be at the mid values of the normal ranges.
If i were your treatment doctor i would suggest you the same as your surgeon did, to keep you safe from the side effect of overdosage.
Hope to have helped you somewhat with my suggestions.

Best regards,
Dr.M.Guni
