Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Elevated ASO titres suggest rheumatic heart disease.
Rheumatic heart disease is caused by a bacteria called Streptococcus hemolyticus.
This bacterial proteins have resemblance to certain proteins in the heart tissue.
Due to this mimicry, antibodies produced against the bacterial proteins are directed against the heart muscles.
Thus, there is production of auto-antibodies against the self heart tissue.
This leads to rheumatic heart disease.
The ASO titres are raised. ASO stands for Anti Streptolysin O.
Besides involvement of the heart there is involvement of other tissues like joints and kidney.
The back pain and joint pain that you are experiencing is probably due to the rheumatic heart disease.
You need to see a cardiologist.
Treatment of rheumatic heart disease will relieve the joint problem too.

Thanks and take care
