What S Causing Diminishing Armpit Hair In A Well Built 50 Yr Old Man Who Had Low Testosterone In 40s And Had Hormone Replacement?

Hi I am 50 years old 5 -11 236 lbs. work out regularly. In the last three months my arm pit hair has basically gone away. About 5% remains as compared to last year. No significant medical history. My ideal weight is around 215 due to muscular build, regular weight training, and very broad shoulders / upper body. So I am 20lbs too fat. I have tested very very low in testosterone at times in my 30s and 40s. Usually stress related. Used hormone replacement for around six years. Hasn t seemed to be an issue lately. Unless this is a new symptom.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
Low testosterone levels can cause loss of armpit and pubic hair as these are testosterone dependent. This may indicate that you have low testosterone in body. we need to do few tests. How is your sexual desire and erection? Are you developing breast enlargement or reduction in testes size ?
Are your legs longer ? What about vision.

The above are few questions which help the endocrinolgist to cime to a conclusion. Testosterone should be checked in the morning as a fasting sample. If that is low, we need to do further tests like LH, Proactin, Thyroid functions and few other hormones. A complete physical examination also is necessary.

I would advice you to meet an endocrinologist if you have low testosterone rather than putting it down to " stress related"
