What Precautions Needs To Be Taken After An Injury At The Back Of The Head?

My 14 year old niece fell backwards on the ice rink a half an hour ago. She hit the back of her head on the ice. She said that she thought she may have blacked out for a second. She then had trouble seeing out of one eye. We quit and came home. She does have a bump on the back of her head. I checked her pupils and they are the same size when I put a flashlight to them, and are remaining equal after. I have had her sitting still on the sofa at home with an ice pack on the back of her head. Should I make any other precautions? Anything else to look for?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
It would be good for her to see her pediatrician so that they can examine her and be aware of what has happened.
If that is not possible then, if she tells you that she is having any visual problems then you need to take her to emergency now.
If not then you will just need to watch her for the next couple of weeks. If she gets a severe headache, has any behavioral changes or has trouble walking then you need to take her to emergency right away.
Regards
