Hi Dr. Samuel. I have had several gout attacks over the last 4 years in my left foot. My left hand I have had continued pain in my joints for 4 years, my doctor told me was arthritis. My doctor would give me inflammatory tablets to help. Changing my diet towards purine foods was my option rather than him giving me gout meds. Attacks happened after long periods, due to the fact that I d forget about my gout and eat offal or seafood. Last week I woke up with my right hand swollen throbbing with pain. I made an appointment. My doctor was booked out for the day. I saw another doctor. Who after seeing my files suspected gout. Blood test revealed high uric acid levels, and diabetes. My question. Can you have medication for gout, and medication for diabetes. I was given DICLAX Tablets for gout pain. METFORMIN Tablets for diabetes. I did really want gout medication tablets. But was told to wait for inflammation on right hand to go down. Return in 2 weeks and go from there. I am confused.
