What Might Be The Cause Of Genital Herpes? How Long Do I Have To Wait Before Getting Pregnant?

HI,

I have had recent genital herpes infection. Upon TORCH TEST, the reports were high on Rubella IGg, High Cytomegalovirus IGG, High HSV1 IGM, HIGH HSV2 IGM. I am planning for pregnancy. When is the ideal time? How many days will it take for the HSV IGM levels to decrease. My symptoms have gone, except occasional tiredness. My husband does not have any symptoms. I only got it. What can be the reason?

Hello. Thank you writing to us at healthcaremagic

Herpes is usually acquired by close/intimate contact.
Since you have IgM antibodies against both type i and type 2 Hsv, therefore that suggests a recent flare. Provided Hsv IgG is negative, it is surely a recently acquired infection.
Your other test results for rubella and cytomegalovirus are suggestive of past infection and therefore of no significance.
Regarding pregnancy, you surely can get pregnant as soon as you and your husband desire.
Genital herpes is a risk factor for the fetus during delivery, when infection can be passed on to the fetus through contaminated genital secretions.
The risk is more during an active episode of genital herpes at the time of delivery. This can be circumvented by caesarean section to reduce the chances of fetal transmission.
As I mentioned that herpes is acquired by close contact i.e sexual contact in case of genital herpes. Therefore the only way you could have got it is from your sexual partner.
Not all those who are infected may have symptoms of herpes i.e are clinically silent. They may have an episode of herpetic sores at different times.
I suggest you to talk to a venereologist for more details regarding herpes and ways to prevent its transmission

Regards
