What medicine should I give my son for cough who is having ASD ?

my son is having asd with 7mm of size and doctors asked to wait for 2-3 years atleast for baloon surgery .Issue is he gets bad cough in every 2-3 week can you please some guideline what we can do to avoid so? Doctor asked some inhaler kind of pump(like people with Asthama use) for daily use but still no cure.Please guide me,,,

Cough suppressants like Linctus codeine can be used but it is contraindicated if the cough is of infective nature. Saline nebulosations can also help. You are in the correct lone of treatment
