What Medication Is Suggested For Swelling At The Middle Of The Finger?

My son is 9 yrs old and recently fell at the schoolyard and hurt and hand. The school nurse iced it and put antibiotic ointment & a bandaid. It didn't look like anything worse than a paper-cut when he showed it to me a few weeks ago. I didn't closely monitor the area, since I thought it was fairly minor. Yesterday, I noticed that his middle finger on the first joint closest to the nail was swollen. He says there is no pain associated with the finger or in that area at all, but when he bends it his skin turns white. Does my son need to get X-rays to make sure everything's fine or should he go the pediatrition's ?

hi,

this could be a Paronychia which is an infection next to the nail bed. antibiotic treatment is sometimes required and incision and drainage if the area if there is a collection if pus.

I hope this answers your question.

best wishes
