What Means Non Calcified Subpleural Nodule And Parenchymal Nodule In CT Scan?

My son had a CT scan of his lungs and several spots were discovered. Defined as noncalcified subpleural nodule subpleural nodule parenchymal nodule We do not know what this means. It was 5 months ago and the hospital Dr did not advise test results. He does not have a family Dr. They want to do another CT scan and biopsy. How critical and fast should these tests be conducted? He is scared. So am I. Sandra

Thanks for writing in.

It is important to know the symptoms your son has and circumstances which made him get CT scan done. A sub pleural lung nodule is a small round area in lungs under the membranes covering the lungs. These nodules need regular followup as per clinical criteria. A repeat CT scan is advised to know interval growth of the nodules in the last 5 months. If they have significantly grown in number and size than a biopsy may be indicated to establish diagnosis.
